My Approach

I have a theory too.
My theory is about moments.
Moments of impacts.

My theory is that, these moments of impact, these flashes of high intensity that completely turn our lives upside down actually end up defining who we are...

A moment of impact has potential for change, has ripple effects far beyond what we can predict.
Sending some particles crashing together making them closer than before, while sending others off into great ventures, ending where you never thought you’d find them.

You see that’s the best thing of moments like these, you can’t, no matter how hard you try, control how they are going to effect you.

You just got to let these colliding particles land where they may and wait until the next collision.
— The Vow

My methodology is inseparable from my background as a certified pilates and yoga instructor, as well as, as my career in gymnastics. Sessions are a blend of breathwork, bodywork, soul work, meditation, pilates (mat and equipment-based), and yoga, with influence from traditional physical therapy.

An innovative approach centered around building wellness from the spine outward.

moments of impact

Roughly a year following the inception of Shannon Escarra Beyond Physical Therapy, this methodology was refocused after I suffered a severe spinal cord and intervertebral disc injury that changed my life physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This “moment of impact” led to an unavoidable lifestyle shift that simultaneously sparked a fire to innovate how we live in and from these bodies - starting with the spine.

Living from the spine

In yoga, we talk about “living from the spine.” This means to connect with our internal world before looking externally. Keeping the soul from being distracted by the 5 senses that aid in connecting ourselves to this reality. When we “live from the spine” , deeper, internal senses are discovered and refined.

This is my story and moment of impact. I believe that everybody will end up with their own constellation of these moments.

"I began my career as a traveling physical therapist, working in a variety of settings and clinics across the country.

During my travels, I grew increasingly frustrated with corporate and government-run healthcare—and the many well-known complications we so often discuss when it comes to the healthcare system in America and beyond.

In response, Shannon Escarra Beyond Physical Therapy was born—an alchemy of movement-based medicine designed to treat not just the body, but the mind and soul as well.

This is not a business obsessed with endless growth, but rather a raw, intentional offering of quality, personalized care.

These sessions are for you. They can be scheduled whenever best suits your unique needs. A sliding scale is available for those with financial constraints. Group classes, occasional thoughtful newsletters, and online content are also available—affordable or free—offering tools to help you feel at peace and find home within YOU.

Hi, I’m Shan.

Constant vibration, intelligent movement, and inner exploration are infused into my DNA.

My mom, a lifelong fitness enthusiast and physical therapist assistant, taught movement classes throughout her life—adapting with each decade’s trends, from aerobics to Pilates, yoga, and beyond.

From a young age, she instilled in me the importance of movement and its medicinal qualities. It wasn’t long before, in my teenage years, I began instructing movement-based classes myself.

But before we get carried away, let’s jump back to the beginning.

When I was three, I discovered gymnastics.

I trained competitively throughout my school years, sustaining four traumatic elbow fractures along the way. These injuries gave me a deep appreciation for the human body and its remarkable ability to heal. I eventually competed as a collegiate athlete at Seattle Pacific University.

After earning a bachelor's degree in Applied Human Biology with a minor in Exercise Science, I took a year for self-exploration, immersing myself in various spiritual practices before completing a Doctorate in Physical Therapy."
